French Cote du Rhone
Grape variety: Syrah
Crozes-Hermitage, Syrah grown on the limestone soils of Beaumont-Montou village, whole bunch macerated carbonic press, fermented and aged in cement tanks. A garnet color with purple tones, a wild scent full of wildness, aromas of prunes and cassis jam, roundness derived from aging and well-melted tannins, giving it a well-balanced and thick taste.
A powerful Syrah produced by the ultimate biodynamic cultivation in the Northern Rhone.
In January 2012, in search of the ultimate Syrah, cross the Rhone River from Valence, the main city in the northern Rhone, and head west for 15 minutes to reach the Rhone Mountains, where you will find the great AOC Cornas! Located south of Saint-Joseph on the right bank of the Rhone River. The Cornus field, which means "burnt earth" in Celtic, spreads out in a stepped shape called a terrace on a steep east-facing slope where the sun is scorching. Most of the red wines produced from this historic vineyard are made from 100% Syrah. In general, red wines from the northern Rhône are mainly made from Syrah.
It stipulates the use of some white grapes such as Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne as supplementary varieties. However, this AOC Cornus does not have that provision. As a result, it produces wild wines with strong tannins. Domaine du Clé producer Machu Valley inherited his grandfather's domaine here in Cornas in 1999 and now owns a field of 13ha. The soil is old granite called 'Gore' which gives the wines a minerality. Average age 35-40 years, including 80-90 year old Syrah vines planted in the 1920s. In order to make the most of the vitality of the soil, we have been practicing biologic farming since 2001, and biodynamic farming since 2002. In order to value harmony with nature, we have naturally left a thicket of trees called "haie" around the fields. It regulates the moisture in the soil. The soil in the field is fluffy and you can see that the vines are living with vitality. We have a strong commitment to the brewing method, and fermentation is done in an egg-shaped cement tank that is easy to store the power of the grapes and easy to remove sediment, and we do not use new barrels for aging to express the terroir to the fullest. The wine made in this way is powerful yet delicate, rich in complexity and aftertaste, and can be said to be a Grand Vin produced by Northern Rhone. It is listed in famous restaurants such as French three-star restaurant Pic and Le Cilantro, and the name of Machu Valley has received hot attention not only from the natural wine world but also from the entire wine industry. Please enjoy the passionate Syrah produced by Machu, who has a bright private life and earnest winemaking.
